01

WHY SHOES COME OFF AT THE DOOR

Korean homes traditionally use floors closely for sitting, sleeping and heating, so separating outdoor shoes from clean indoor floors became a strong custom.

02

WHAT THE ENTRANCE AREA TELLS YOU

Homes usually have a lower entrance area for shoes before stepping onto the raised interior floor. Some restaurants, guesthouses and traditional spaces follow similar rules.

03

WHAT VISITORS SHOULD DO

If you see shoes lined up at an entrance or a raised floor beyond the doorway, remove your shoes and place them where indicated. Slippers may be provided in some places.
